Specifically, it uses information from the <strong>Sentinel-1A and Sentinel-1B twin satellite constellation of the European Union&#8217;s Copernicus Program<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.copernicus.eu\/es\">https:\/\/www.copernicus.eu\/es<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recently, the Detektia team attended Fringe (<a href=\"https:\/\/fringe2023.esa.int\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/fringe2023.esa.int\/<\/a>), a leading congress in InSAR technology organized by the European Space Agency. At this congress, there was much talk about the EGMS, and a similar service for the entire USA, part of the (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpl.nasa.gov\/go\/opera\/about-opera\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/www.jpl.nasa.gov\/go\/opera\/about-opera<\/a>), was presented, which will be <strong>available by the end of 2024<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/detektia.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/opera-project-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"Main products of the OPERA project led by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. One of these products is the Surface Displacement, which has characteristics similar to the EGMS and will be available for the entire territory of the USA by the end of 2024.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>The Sentinel-1 satellites are equipped with a <strong>Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) operating in C-band<\/strong>. Sentinel-1A was launched on April 3, 2014, and its twin, Sentinel-1B, on April 25, 2016. In December 2021, Sentinel-1B stopped supplying data due to an electronic power supply failure. The launch of a new satellite (Sentinel-1C) is expected in the second half of 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>InSAR technology<\/strong> enables the identification of reliable measurement points, generating both the <strong>deformation velocity<\/strong> (in mm\/year) and the <strong>time series of movements<\/strong> with <strong>millimetric precision<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Urban or industrial areas and infrastructures<\/strong> of all kinds have characteristics that allow InSAR technology to obtain deformation time series with <strong>higher spatial resolution<\/strong>. On the map, we see the high point density with time series of deformation that EGMS offers in urban areas.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>In this project, <strong>global satellite navigation systems (GNSS)<\/strong> have been used as <strong>calibration information for interferometric measurements<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The EGMS distributes three levels of products updated annually:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The basic product<\/strong> includes time series of deformation in the satellite&#8217;s line of sight (ascending and descending geometry). Basic products refer to a local reference point.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The calibrated product<\/strong> constitutes a higher level of processing than the basic product, as the time series of deformation show absolute movements linked to the GNSS network. That is, this product does not depend on local reference points.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The Orto product <\/strong>provides movements in vertical and East-West planimetry anchored to the reference geodetic model. These processes include geological hazards, human-induced deformations, landslides, ground subsidence, volcanic instability, and many more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At Detektia, we focus on the <strong>application of InSAR technology in the civil engineering sector.<\/strong> Our mission is to integrate satellite InSAR into construction, maintenance, and infrastructure management processes, <strong>anticipating the geotechnical behavior of the ground and providing early warnings and structural health metrics<\/strong> to infrastructure managers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this context, the <strong>EGMS project adds great value<\/strong>, representing a clear <strong>opportunity <\/strong>for the civil engineering sector to become familiar with an overwhelming volume of data from a technology that will be key in the coming decades for infrastructure management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_do_we_use_this_service_in_Detektia\"><\/span>How do we use this service in Detektia?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>At Detektia, we have created an i<strong>nventory of examples and use cases of InSAR technology applications in the civil engineering <\/strong>sector using EGMS data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To date, we have recorded <strong>87 use cases across Europe<\/strong>, covering more than 3 million points distributed in various categories (urban works, structural health of buildings, slopes, dams, ports, levees, etc.).
